Résumé : | This is an overview of the VET system in Latvia. Information is presented according to the following themes : 1. External factors influencing VET: structure and development of the population and of the labour force ; economy structure ; degree of regulation of the labour market, labour supply/labour demand, mismatches ; degree of regulation of access to occupations/professions ; main features of welfare/employment policies relevant to VET ; value of VET qualifications in the labour market. 2. Providing vocational education in a lifelong learning perspective : diagram of the national education system ; government-regulated VET provision ; other forms of learning. 3. Shaping VET qualifications : methods for anticipating labour market needs and applying the results in VET ; how and by whom qualifications are designed; ensuring the labour market relevance of knowledge, skills and competence development in VET ; quality assurance of the process ; validation of non-formal and informal learning and whether it leads to qualifications. 4. Promoting participation in vocational education and training : types and characteristics of incentives for individuals, enterprises and providers ; guidance and counselling, structures and services ; current key challenges.
